The Imprint

A source of honest books.

Mbonelele is an independent South African publishing house. We publish non-fiction at the intersection of faith, family, and personal development — voices that record realities rather than soothe comfort zones.

The Name

Where the name comes from.

Mbonelele is the name of a stream. In the Venda region of Limpopo, it was the waterway that sustained Takalani Musekwa’s ancestral community across generations — a source that supplied life when it was needed most. The imprint takes its name, and its purpose, from that stream: to sustain. To supply what is real, necessary, and lasting.

Founded in 2026 by Takalani and Margaret Musekwa, Mbonelele began as a platform for two voices with a shared conviction about what books should do. It is built to grow — to become the home where more African voices, stories, and perspectives find their way into print.

What We Publish

Non-fiction that tells the truth.

Marriage & Relationships

Faith-grounded perspectives on singlehood, marriage, remarriage, and the realities of long-term commitment.

Ministry Life

The unspoken truths of pastoral leadership, church service, and the personal cost of building in public.

Personal Development

Practical, spiritually-grounded frameworks for growth — built on lived experience, not theory.

Family & Parenting

Honest guides for the realities of family life: early parenthood, raising children in faith, and household leadership.

Books shouldn’t soothe comfort zones; they must record realities. We built this imprint to release ideas that stand upright without the crutches of decorative aesthetics or contemporary compliance.

Looking Ahead

More voices. More stories.

Mbonelele is a platform for African voices. We believe there are stories being lived across this continent that have not yet been told in print — and that those stories deserve to be. Our author list is growing.

If you have a manuscript that fits our mission — honest, faith-grounded, rooted in lived African experience — we want to hear from you.
